Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Truro (with Tresillian) Methodist Church is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of its mission and activities. As a proud member of the Inclusive Church Network, it adheres to the Inclusive Church Statement of Values, advocating for a church that affirms and celebrates every individual without discrimination based on disability, economic power, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity, or sexuality.
The Church’s approach is grounded in the principles of the Equality Act 2010, which protects characteristics such as sex, gender reassignment, race, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy and maternity. Discrimination based on irrelevant factors is prohibited, and the Church fosters a culture of meritocracy, fairness, openness, and transparency.
The policy applies to all lay employees, ministers, volunteers, secondees, consultants, suppliers, contractors, and agency workers, whether permanent or temporary. These individuals are responsible for ensuring an environment free from discrimination. The policy governs employment and training processes and extends to interactions with customers and clients, emphasizing inclusivity and justice in all operations. By adhering to these values, Truro (with Tresillian) Methodist Church reflects its commitment to create a welcoming environment grounded in the love of Jesus Christ.
Anti-Racism Policy
Truro with Tresillian Methodist Church Anti-Racism Policy
The Truro Methodist Church Anti-Racism Policy draws upon the Methodist Conference statement, which identifies racism as a sin incompatible with the Gospel’s teachings. The policy emphasizes that racism contradicts God’s love, which is inclusive and unconditional, as demonstrated in the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. According to the biblical teachings cited, particularly from Ephesians 2:14-17, Christ’s mission was to unite all people, breaking down barriers of division and hostility.
The statement acknowledges the reality of racism, both overt and covert, within the nation and the Church itself. It challenges the Church, as an institution deeply embedded in society, to take a clear and decisive stand against racism. The Church is called to consistently demonstrate its rejection of racism and provide leadership in promoting equality and unity.
Central to the policy is the belief that God is the Creator of all humanity, and all people are part of one family under God. This theological foundation reinforces the Church’s commitment to fostering peace, inclusion, and the eradication of racial discrimination in all its forms. The policy serves as a declaration of the Church’s moral imperative to confront racism and live out its faith through actions that align with the values of equality and justice.
Eco Church
We are holders of the Eco-Church Silver Award which recognises the journey we are on as a Church towards being good stewards of creation. But there is always so much more to do and so much more which can be done. Our Church Council receives regular updates that challenge our perception and practice, offering further adaptations that we can make to further the eco mission of the church.
We also celebrate the beauty of God’s creation in worship and pray often, regularly and intelligently for the work of Climate Justice. Our commitment to partner with others for the protection and healing of creation is reflected in our Environmental Policy.

Environmental Policy Summary: Truro (with Tresillian) Methodist Church
The Environmental Policy of Truro (with Tresillian) Methodist Church reflects the Church’s commitment to integrating care for God’s creation into its Christian mission. We believe we are called to be careful stewards of all creation, and the Church therefore aims to honour the divine balance of creation and address the environmental challenges of our time.
We have adopted a policy for the environment that fosters sustainable practices within the Church community, both locally and globally, to ensure the welfare of future generations. It encourages members to adopt sustainable resource use, conserve energy, and promote environmentally responsible habits both at the Church and in their homes. A significant focus is placed on the LOAF principles for purchasing—prioritising locally grown, organic, animal-friendly, and Fairtrade products whenever possible.
In alignment with the teaching of the Bible, the Church views environmental care as an expression of God’s love, striving to restore harmony within creation and practice responsible stewardship. The policy serves as a call to action for the Methodist community, encouraging a faithful response to the ecological challenges of the present while working towards a sustainable and renewing future.
